The Debutante Ball
The first Debutante Ball was held in March 1971. Les Soeurs Charmantes Social and Civic Club presented 16 girls to society. The purpose of this event was to encourage senior high school Black girls to take pride in their character and scholarship.

On behalf of Les Soeurs Charmantes Social and Civic Club, I welcome you with great excitement to our 50th Annual Debutante Ball. My fellow club sisters and I have taken great pride in planning this year’s celebration. Tonight’ theme is “Celebrating 50 Years of Beauty and Joy.” This night promises to be magical and memorable for all. Tonight, we will be introducing 23 extraordinary young ladies. They have met the scholastic requirements set forth by the club. Leading up to tonight’s celebration, these young women have participated in workshops, service projects, the mother and daughter tea, and other special events. Additionally, the Debutantes and their escorts have put in an enormous amount of time in preparation for their big night. It was delightful working with such a great group of cooperative and respectable young people. We feel confident that our debutantes will continue to be model citizens in the next phase of their lives and exemplify the core values of Les Soeurs Charmantes. First, I like to congratulate our Debutantes. You are going to be amazing. We hope the memories of this experience will remain with you forever. Ladies, remember to dream big and stay focused on your goals. Do not forget to aim for the highest peak in God that will bring you true happiness and fulfillment. Secondly, I would like to thank the parents, relatives, escorts, and friends for your commitment. We cannot do any of this without your support. In addition, the ladies of LSC would like to thank our patrons for their annual support of our club. We offer scholarships to our debutante each year because of your generous support. The Debutante season is a yearlong project and tonight marks the finale of many hours of hard work. I would like to extend a special thank you to the dedicated committees that organized and implemented the entire Debutante program this year. I am also truly grateful for our Debutante Chairperson, Mrs. Leah Sullivan and Co-Chairperson, Ms. Shalanda Harris, for working harmoniously throughout this lengthy process. Lastly, I sincerely appreciate and thank all my Charming Sisters for all that you do in honor of Les Soeurs Charmantes Social and Civic Club. Again, Congratulations and best wishes to the 2023 Debutantes! My prayer is that you all enjoy your evening!
